Volleyball Rules and Regulations – Fall Indoors

RULE #1: THIS IS FOR FUN. MAKE SURE THE KIDS ALL HAVE FUN AND DO NOT STRESS WINNING. THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ABOUT WINNING!

Divsions 1 and 2 should practice for 30 minutes then play for 30 minutes.

Division 3 should practice for 20 mins then play for 40 minutes.

Balls and scorecards will be provided at the courts.

Serving:

  • A serve that hits the net and goes over is good
  • You may not block a serve…ever!
  • Players may serve underhand, overhand or jump serve
  • Players may only serve 5 times then the serve goes to the other team (All Divisions)
  • Players must stay behind the line when serving. Players in Div. 1 may move up if they can’t reach the net
  • Players in Div 1 may have a second serve if the first one does not go over.

Scoring:

  • Games are played to 25, must win by 2 or first one to 30.
  • We will use rally (speed) scoring in all Divsions. Rally scoring means a point is scored every time the ball hits the sand. You do not have to serve to score a point.
  • Play as many games as time allows
  • Coaches will take turns keeping score.

Boundaries:

  • If any part of the ball touches the boundary line, its in.

Rotation:

  • Each time a new server comes up, that team must rotate. When you begin a new game, always begin with the rotation you ended the last game with. Teams rotate clockwise.

General Rules:

  • Teams may only hit the ball 3 times per side. A blocked ball does not count as a hit so after a block, you still have 3 hits.
  • In Div 3, if you have girls and boys on a team, a girl must touch the ball if there are 3 hits. These are typical co-ed rules. I also don’t want two boys lined up next to each other on a team.
  • You can not touch the net or go under the net at anytime. If you do, its loss of point

Reffing:

  • Coaches will ref their own games. Whenever there is a disagreement between coaches, do a replay. Let’s not have coaches arguing over calls, ok? Kids hate that!
