The 2011 Age 8 DAA Tournament Baseball Team, coached by Marc Rossi, had tremendous end-of-season success.

In late-June, the Age 8 Tigers captured the District 10 Tournament Championship, by beating Warrington 14-13 in a 10 inning game. They finished the District 10 Tournament as undefeated champions. In mid-July, at the PA State Tournament, the Tigers advanced through pool play with only one loss, then winning their semi-final game in a tight 3-2 win against a tough team from Hilltop.  In the State Championship game, Doylestown lost in extra innings 14-15 to Llanerch Hills, in what at the time looked to be a difficult end to an unbelievable season.

A week later, though, in late-July, Llanerch Hills declined their invitation to advance, and the Tigers took their place as the SE Pennsylvania representative in the Cal Ripken Mid Atlantic Regional Tournament held at Great Kills, Staten Island, NY.  This represented the first time a Doylestown team has mdIMG_2392oved beyond the State level in Cal Ripken tournament play.  Players, coaches and families of the Doylestown Tigers went to Staten Island excited to have the opportunity to play and watch more baseball.  The Regional tournament included the top nine Mid Atlantic teams, two from New Jersey, two from Pennsylvania, one from Delaware, and four teams from across New York state.

The Regionals began August 6th, and the Tigers completed the pool play round with three wins and one loss.  In their final pool play game the Tigers also beat the other Pennsylvania representative Audubon, the NW PA State Champion, 11-1; Aududon was undefeated to that point in the tournament.  After pool play, the Tigers were ranked the #3 seed.  Then began single elimination play. In the quarter-finals, the Tigers beat the Metro New York runner-up, the Great Kills Staten Island Reds 9-8, followed by a same day 4-1 win over the #2 seed coming out of pool play, Manalapan New Jersey.   Manalapan, the top team in New Jersey, was one of the toughest teams Doylestown had faced all season.  Now advancing to the championship game, and after seven days on Staten Island, the Tigers faced the #1 seed from Metro New York, the Paulino team, from The Bronx. Through pool play, Paulino had trounced all opponents by 10 runs or more.  The championship game was special, with an announcer who sounded just like the late Bob Sheppard for the Yankees, and with four umps on the field.  It felt like a major league game.  The Tigers fought hard, but the Paulino team, with both strong hitting and solid infield play, won the championship 12-8.

The Tigers finished their tournament season with an amazing 14-4 record across District, State and Regional Championship levels of play, and finished their season as the #2 eight year old team across the entire Mid Atlantic Region of Cal Ripken Baseball

After the championship game there was no disappointment, as the Tiger 8's completed a tremendous run, and in so doing, also advanced farther in Cal Ripken tournamant play than any DAA team to date.

Congratulations for a tremendous tournament season go to head coach Marc Rossi, assistant coach John Kennedy, and their twelve Tigers: Nick Bitsko, David Bloom, Peter Glauber, Shane Kennedy, Matt Murphy, Jack Nugent, Cody Rosolowski, Tony Rossi, Jackson Ruddell, Donnie Schwender, Jack Wilde and Carter Williams.

This was a true team, with strong contributions throughout the line-up.
